Tips to Be a Happier Parent • Parent Influence

Do you ever feel like happiness is an impossible goal? It can seem that way sometimes. As a working parent, you face many challenges including lack of sleep and stress.

These and other factors can make it difficult to maintain the energy it takes for joy and laughter every day. But being a happier parent is not beyond your reach. The following tips will give you a good start on the path to optimism and happiness.

Make time for play each day

It may seem impossible to carve out an hour or more in your busy schedule for fun, but you can do it if you plan ahead. Take advantage of scheduled downtime during the workday or weekdays to plan activities that you can look forward to.

For example, take a walk during your lunch hour or grab an after-dinner drink with a friend.

Hide time for play in the midst of your busy schedule

Even if you make time for fun during the week, it’s very easy to let other responsibilities get in the way of enjoying yourself. Scheduling a time to play should be just the first step. Be sure to schedule blocks of leisure time into your daily routine and stick to them, whatever the circumstances.

For example, make it a point never to miss your favorite TV show during its timeslot even when you have other things you need or want to do.

Budget for happiness

Don’t forget about your emotional needs when you make a budget. In addition to utility and transportation costs, include time for leisure activities as well.

For example, allocate money for movie outings or an occasional night at the theater instead of dinner at home every night. You might also consider reserving a certain amount of cash each week for spontaneous fun.

Increase your happiness quotient daily

There are a number of things you can do to improve your mood every day. The best way is by finding simple ways to increase the good feelings about yourself and your life on a daily basis. Whether it’s helping out at a local charity or spending more time with friends, you should never stop looking for ways to feel good and enjoy life.

As a working parent, it can be difficult to maintain the energy it takes for joy and laughter every day. But being a happier parent is not beyond your reach. The above tips will give you a good start on the path to optimism and happiness.
