Examples and Benefits of Being a Mindful Parent • Parent Influence

Being a mindful parent is all about being conscious of what your kids need and how your life is impacting the family. Since mindful parenting is becoming rather popular, we wanted to share more examples and the benefits of being a mindful parent with you.

Mindful parenting is all about being present in the moment. You’ll be fully aware of what’s going on, how each person is feeling, and perhaps what people are thinking in your family such as your children when you practice being more mindful. This is the art of living in the present moment as a parent!

Examples of Being a Mindful Parent

Here are some examples of what being a mindful parent entails.

Listening

You’ll truly listen to what your kids have to tell you. Your thoughts are paused so that all you can hear and think about is the words that your children are speaking in this present moment. You’ll be observing and hearing without judgment or other thoughts.

Emotional Awareness

Mindful parents are aware of the emotional side of their kids. They sense and see when their kids need something or are feeling a specific emotion. The mindful parent will step in to ask questions, give a hug, or otherwise tend to their kids’ emotional needs regularly.

Self-Regulation

Mindful parents are excellent self-regulators. This means that they rarely respond from a highly emotional state. These parents are better at replying in a way that helps bring resolution to a situation and allows the kids to feel seen, heard, and cared for.

Benefits of Being a Mindful Parent

Below are just some of the many benefits of being a mindful parent.

Improved Communication

Children who are raised by mindful parents are better equipped to have excellent communication skills. They can speak their feelings with ease and are more mindful to speak up for what they believe in and how they think or feel during various situations from a young age into adulthood.

Sense of Security

The children of mindful parents have a high sense of security. That is that they feel safe and secure so their confidence level is higher than those who weren’t raised by mindful parents. These children are great friends, partners, and team members in life.

Lowers Depression and Anxiety

Lastly, children who are raised by mindful parents tend to have lower levels of depression and anxiety. They were raised to be seen and heard by compassionate parents who were truly present during every part of their life. This means they’re able to feel more confident and happier in later years, too!

These are just some of the examples and benefits of being a mindful parent. We hope that this has intrigued you to try to learn more about the art of mindful parenting so that you can be a more present, in the moment parent too!
